Our family has been searching for this cabin for many years. We have a large family and love to get together, to laugh and play and relax. As our family grew, it became harder and harder to find someplace with not only lots of sleeping space, but ample space to play which offered abundant outdoor activities as well.
For us, this Lodge has it all… swimming, boating, snowmobiling, ATV trails, hiking, hunting, games, and space to play…
We have recently adopted our eleventh child to bring our total to twenty children. We had another life planned, a quieter life. We anticipated a child or two and professional careers and no sideways glances.
We were both volunteer firefighters/EMT’s and had experience working with kids with profound medical needs. Our lives had brought us into contact with kiddos in foster care, and we felt called to this as a short-term ministry (before starting a family “of our own.”) We became licensed to provide foster care for children with high needs through a private treatment foster care agency. One child came and returned home. The process was lovely and sweet, if heartbreaking. The details are endless and the changes incremental. The year we had our first biological child, five children for whom we had cared needed a permanent home. We adopted them all… and, once you have six children… life has changed forever, and seven children no longer seems like much of a change… neither did eight, or nine, or… Today, we have eleven adopted children; we have three more whom we consider permanent family members (even though adoption was not possible), and six biological children. A family “of our own” looked a lot different than we had anticipated. And, it is spectacular.
Our older, adopted, children are now starting to get married and have children. The family keeps growing.
Finding this space, sharing it with each other, sharing it with you is our latest step in this ministry… we realized, caring for children in need was just the beginning… creating a home and community and future where families are supported is where it’s at! So, make memories and hold hands; go fishing and jump right in; snuggle up and read a book; laugh and play and relax.
Enjoy your family.
And, thank you for letting us be a small part of that endeavor.
With Love, The Jacobs Family
